Tel Aviv
Floors: 7 | Apartments: 17 | Status: Occupied | Project Type: Preservation | Architect: Dauber Architects
A preserved building in the White City, designed by architect Nathan Tzfar in 1937 in the International Style, located in an area designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The building features a "scenic facade" covered with artistic wash plaster, with balconies that curve, creating an asymmetrical appearance. The side balconies and service balconies are recessed into the building's volume and surrounded by shading canopies, giving them the appearance of ribbon windows. In 1943, the building was purchased by the Lemberg couple: Paula Simon-Lemberg, one of the first residents of Ahuzat Bayit and founders of Tel Aviv, and Herman Chaim Lemberg, a senior engineer sent to work in Egypt, who was imprisoned there in 1948 for being Jewish. Herman Chaim passed away in Egypt and did not have the chance to immigrate to Israel. His family preserved the building in their memory in 2015. The project involved external renovation according to documentation, including digging a basement apartment and adding a floor under TAMA 38.
